APDA celebrated UN International Day of Older Persons 2021

Globally, we are now living longer, and it is therefore crucial that the quality and standard of living for everyone in society has to improve and especially so for those most vulnerable, including frail and elderly.

Health services, adequate and correct diets, support for regular physical and mental activities are all needed to keep us from acquiring age related disabilities and ill health as we get older.

Highlights of the day

The pandemic has made a greater impact on the mental health as well as the physical conditions of older people and particularly older people from the minority ethnic communities.

On this special day of the older people, APDA is not only helping to raise awareness of the concerns and recommendations raised by the UN’s Independent Expert in her Report on the enjoyment of all human rights by Older Persons, but APDA is also stressing on the importance of the positive cultural and traditional practices that exist between our community’s younger people and older persons. And, highlighting the merits which can contribute towards lessening the effects of Ageism and Age Discrimination” by encouraging the continuation of this valuable age-old traditional practice.
